When Andrea Baseler told us last week that she loved working with us, but decided to change careers; everyone here was devastated. A few tears, complete shock and of course who would we find to replace a vibrant, bright and talented young woman like Andrea? Never mind that she was the only WSU graduate and had to take a lot “stuff” from all the HUSKIES in the office, or that she was a stellar soccer player on the soon to be world famous “Spiders” with Sarah Whitfield, or that she could just lift her head high and smile through any kind of challenge. A stack of resumes of talented people sits on the corner of my desk; the thought of rifling through them seemed daunting and sad. Wait; hold on! Caitlin O’Keefe had us interview a wonderful woman named Katie Links just a few months ago. At the time we didn’t have a job for her, but maybe a facebook message might get her attention. After all, she had been interning with us, she had graduated from the UW with a degree in communications in 2007 and had ample experience. So, within 60 minutes, Katie was in our office and ready to go. It’s been almost two weeks and we haven’t scared her yet, in fact she says she “loves it.” We all wish Andrea the best of luck with her new endeavors and thanks to Katie she was able to take a frown and turn it upside down.
